Target €500 (£350Stg) + depending on numbers and raffle proceeds:
Getting Started…
- Think of everyone you know friends, family, and work colleagues.
- Look at ways to target these groups – e.g. emails, invites and/or announcements at church/clubs.
- Approach local companies for goods and/or prizes, it’s best to start with personal contacts first.
- Others should be contacted by letter stating what you are doing and then followed up with a personal call
- Check if any local pubs already run a pub quiz and approach the owner and ask if one night of the proceeds can be given towards your Trek fundraising. A letter from Concern confirming you are taking part in the trek may help with this.
- Decide on an entry fee for each table and number in each team. A good rule of thumb is €3 each for 6/8 team members.
What you’ll need…
- An appropriate venue in relation to the numbers expected. A pub is perhaps the best location providing a good atmosphere and refreshments. You will need to check what’s available and decide if it suits your event.
- Catering and layout – who is going to do the cooking? Will it be you or a family member? Also it is worth enrolling some family and friends as helpers on the day. Each should be given specific duties e.g. selling raffle tickets.
- Food and drink – Negotiate with the pub owners for some free food and drink. They should be forthcoming as they are getting potential customers from the event.
- Quiz Questions - we have included a 5 Round set of quiz questions with answers. But you can compile your own General Knowledge questions compiled from books or quiz shows. Be sure to establish a compare and adjudicator(s) in advance.
- Raffle – This could easily be organised with good prizes acquired from local businesses
- Invites/ticket per table adds that personal touch and will let people know exactly why the event is being held. Again a letter from Concern confirming the Trek event and that you are taking part may help with this.
A theme will add to the enjoyment of the event. Establish teams based on different themes, perhaps ask a local company to sponsor a team or establish single sex teams.
Timing…
- When choosing the date(s) try to make sure they don’t clash with any major local/national event
- Select 2/3 dates and perhaps circulate these among family and friends, to check availability. Using e-mail at work may be an option providing quick response.
- On the night enough time should be allocated for the amount of rounds and marking the answers.
