Target €500 (£350Stg) + depending on numbers and raffle proceeds.

Getting started...

  • Approach your School/Company/Organisation: Whether you wear a uniform or not this type event is relatively easy to organise and can be a lot of fun.  Your school or employers will need to give you the go ahead before you take it any further.  If you are in a school/organisation where uniforms are worn, you can simply have a non-uniform day.  Otherwise you can organise a day where everyone dresses up based on a particular theme such as 70's/80's.  A seasonal theme can be chosen such as for Christmas or for Halloween.
  • Advertise the event:  Simple posters can be printed to advertise the event within your school or organisation and it may be worth asking your local stationary shop to sponsor you by donating the paper or card.  The posters should state When, Where, What time, How Much and to where the funds raised will be donated.
  • Collect on the day: For this type of event it may be best to collect on the day asking for approx €5 per person.  People who decide not to take part can be asked for a higher contribution.  This will encourage as many people as possible to take part, raising the profile of the event and also raising the fun element.
  • Raffle: for goods and/or prizes for a raffle that you can run on the day.  It's best to start with personal contacts first, and others should be contacted by letter stating what you are doing, and then followed up with a personal call.

What you'll need...

  • Authorisation - The event can be run in a primary or secondary school, in college or in any business or organisation.  Authorisation from the relevant authority will be needed before any further planning takes place.
  • Helpers - Depending on the number of people taking part you'll need a team of people to collect the donations and to sell raffle tickets.  You may also require people to help in putting up the posters.
  • Raffle - You'll need to get an appropriate number of raffle tickets, buy loads as there're relatively cheap and the more you have the more you'll sell.  You will also need a couple of ‘pushy' people who are prepared to sell as many tickets as they possibly can.  Try to have all the prizes well in advance of the event and local businesses are generally very generous in donating small prizes for such an event.

Timing...

  • When choosing the date(s) try to make sure they don't clash with any major local/national event.
  • Select 2/3 dates and perhaps circulate these among family and friends, to check availability.  Using email at work may be an option providing quick response.
