Join us for the Belfast Marathon 2010!

Whether you run or walk the full distance, be part of a relay team or do the fun-run with the family, taking part will be an amazing experience. With your commitment, we can make a real impact in communities affected by extreme poverty and hunger.
Taking part in a marathon is a exciting undertaking, both in terms of the physical challenge and fundraising to help support our health and nutrition programmes. Over the coming months will be doing everything we can to make your life easier and help you succeed in every way – we guarantee it will be a great experience!
There is plenty of time to train and fundraise and we will be providing lots of support, tips and advice along the way
Tips from Sonia
We are thrilled this year to have the support of Sonia O’Sullivan, former world champion runner. She will offer some running tips and advice to everyone running for Concern, so we’ll keep you updated with these in the run up to the marathon.
Fighting hunger and poverty
Sonia, we’re proud to say, has represented Concern in the past. She says: “I have seen some of Concern's projects in Ethiopia so I know that the money you raise for Concern will be put to amazing use. I've known Concern for quite some time so know they have incredible impact in the fight against hunger and extreme poverty in the world.”
What can you expect from Concern?
As part of our team, as well as training tips from Sonia, you will receive:
An exclusive Concern t-shirt and specialist running vest
A team training day to share running hints and tips
Fundraising Support from the Concern team – we can provide ideas, posters, sponsorship forms and materials
Regular up-dates on the work you are supporting
Great race day support with a Concern cheering team on route and a post event reception
Date
The marathon takes place on 3 May 2010. The route is the same as in 2009 and will start at Belfast City Hall and finish at Ormeau Park.
Raising money
Money you raise from the Belfast City Marathon will go towards our health and nutrition programmes in a number of countries. Over 6 million children die each year due to malnutrition. Lack of sufficient quantity or quality of food affects a child’s mental and physical health. Internal organs like the heart and lungs shrink, their bodies don't grow, they catch diseases they can't fight, they become tired, so their ability to learn, communicate and socialise is impacted. Their future is bleak.
Concern Worldwide is committed to building a world where the future of these children is brighter, where the world's poorest people are no longer vulnerable to hunger, where they have improved access to basic nutrition.
Your efforts in raising money means we can focus on nutritional programmes for children under five, education and support for pregnant women, community focused education and the training of community health workers. You support is crucial.
You may be an experienced fundraiser, or this might be your first time, but don’t worry as we’ll give you as much help and support as possible
